The hottest new openings in Hong Kong, November 24-30
Family-friendly Western fare at Medora, a fusion of Spanish and Sichuan flavours at Siete Ocho, plus an exhibition centred on the Maritime Silk Road in Macau
Three new restaurants and a history lesson on China’s sea trade are the highlights of the week.
Medora
Best known for his restaurants VEA and Wing, chef Vicky Cheng has branched out with a new dual-concept, family-friendly dining destination on Wellington Street in Central. The venture features Liz & Tori, a gelato shop dedicated to his daughters, and offering 10 nostalgic flavours such as hazelnut crunch and strawberry swirl. But the highlight of the space is Medora, a casual Western restaurant blending European and American influences, with a menu featuring more than 30 dishes designed for sharing. Meaning “mother’s gift” in Greek, Medora emphasises warmth and family connection through dishes such as tenderloin beef tartare and barbecue chicken.

Landau’s
This new modern European restaurant in Wan Chai takes its name from the family that founded legendary local eatery Jimmy’s Kitchen. Landau’s features two distinct dining areas: the casual Bar & Grill, which serves hearty bar-food dishes with wine, beer and classic cocktails; and the more intimate Dining Room, which will offer a seasonal menu in an eclectic setting when it launches next month.

Siete Ocho
Nestled in the newly opened Dorsett Kai Tak, Siete Ocho marries an unlikely combination of Spanish and Sichuan cuisines. The fusion menu here is brought to life by signature dishes such as the mala gambas omelette, mackerel crudo, cochinillo asado and callos à la Sichuan. To celebrate its soft opening, the restaurant is offering a buy-one-get-one-free deal on its express lunch and dinner menus until January 31.
