How a basic duplex with stunning views became a custom dream home for this married couple
JAAK redesigned an off-the-plan Lam Tin, Hong Kong, duplex with touches of luxury befitting its jaw-dropping views

Moving into a first marital home is a major milestone for any couple.
For the (then) newlywed buyers of an off-the-plan duplex in Lam Tin, Hong Kong, the year-long wait for completion of the purchase they had committed to in 2022 was filled with plans to customise the space.
Occupying the top two floors of a harbourfront building, the 2,000 sq ft apartment came with not only impressive views, but also a rare opportunity for an alfresco lifestyle in an urban locale. Their designer, Calvin Cheng Ka-ming, co-founder and design director of JAAK, was equally enamoured of the property, which boasts additional space in the form of a private terrace and a share of the rooftop. “Extending across Kowloon to Central, the depth of the view is quite extraordinary,” says Cheng.

Even so, the existing four bedrooms were deemed excessive so Cheng used one to expand the main bedroom, another as an extra living area and the fourth as a guest room plus en suite for visiting parents.
