Simple remedies for sore throat relief during cold and flu season
Honey, salt water and camomile tea reduce pain and swelling, but consult a doctor if your symptoms persist.

We all know that scratchy, burning feeling in the throat, especially during cold and flu seasons. This can make swallowing or speaking painful (see graphic).
It is always best to see a doctor if you have a sore throat, but some simple things you can try at home might help.

Honey
In addition to making a sore throat feel better, research shows that honey can stop coughing. It is just as useful as dextromethorphan, a medicine often used to reduce coughing.
Salt water
Gargling with salt water helps to reduce swelling and kill harmful bacteria in your throat.
Mix half a teaspoon of salt in 240ml of warm water to do this. Gently gargle the mixture to soothe soreness and keep your throat healthy.
Camomile tea
Camomile tea is not just good for helping us sleep. It can help soothe a sore throat and reduce swelling and pain.
Drinking camomile tea might also boost our immunity and help fight infections.
While these methods have been shown by science to be effective, you should always get an adult’s approval before trying them.
