Studying is a big part of school life, and feeling worried about doing well is normal. Sometimes, it can be frustrating and stressful when the schoolwork is hard.

Learning new things can be difficult because we’re doing something we don’t know how to do. When you feel worried, consider how much you’ve learned and improved since the last term. You’ll see that you’re making progress.

Studying is important, but there’s more to life than just school. You have a family, friends, things you enjoy, your health, and sports.

When you’re stressed about school, remember you can do many fun things, too.

If you’re stressed while studying, you could try studying for 25 minutes and then resting for five minutes. This gives your brain a chance to reset. Some things you can do to take a break include taking a short walk, stretching, jumping, drawing or eating a snack.

Avoid watching TV and playing games during study breaks because they can be distracting and make it hard to focus again. Instead, save them for the evening so it feels like a “reward” after studying hard.

This question was answered by San Hung, a registered counselling psychologist (HKPS) and secondary school counsellor.
