Trump’s White House receives two Nobel Peace Prize nominations in space of one week
- The nominations relate to US-brokered efforts at normalising Serbia-Kosovo ties, and gaining diplomatic recognition for Israel in the Middle East
- All national-level politicians and heads of state are permitted to make nominations, which carry no indication of the likelihood of a win

As US President Donald Trump pushes for peace in the Middle East, his administration’s efforts in the Balkans earned the US its second nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize in a week.
Swedish politician Magnus Jacobsson on Friday nominated the governments of Serbia, Kosovo, and the US for their efforts to normalise economic relations between Serbia and its former province, which unilaterally declared independence in 2008.
Jacobsson said that he had nominated the three governments “for their joint work for peace and economic development.”

“Trade and communications are important building blocks for peace,” he wrote on Twitter.
The leaders of both Kosovo and Serbia met in Washington last week, and on September 4 Trump announced a deal for “economic normalisation” between the two countries.
