‘Grossly irresponsible’: Toronto police arrest viral-video teen Marcella Zoia for hurling chairs off 45th floor of high-rise
- The incident ‘could have caused serious injury and death’ as the chairs plummeted onto a busy street say police
- Marcella Zoia, 19, is charged with mischief endangering life, mischief endangering property and common nuisance
A 19-year-old woman has been charged with throwing two chairs off a 45th storey balcony along a busy downtown Toronto street.
The incident shown in an online video, captioned “Good morning”, sparked widespread outrage.
Detective Todd Higo said Marcella Zoia turned herself in.
Zoia made a brief court appearance on Wednesday afternoon and was released on C$2,000 (US$1,500) bail and ordered to live with her mother. She must also not have any contact with the four people who were with her at the time.
“She is embarrassed by what happened. She wished it never happened. Of course, she would never wish anyone would be hurt,” said Greg Leslie, her lawyer.
Leslie said Zoia understands the public outrage. He said he would have discussions with the prosecution and the case might not go to trial.
