Britain’s Prince Philip admitted to hospital as a ‘precautionary measure’
- Queen Elizabeth’s husband is expected to remain in hospital for a few days, after reporting ‘feeling unwell’
- Prince Philip, 99, and the queen, 94, last month received Covid-19 vaccination shots, as a highly transmissible new variant of the virus surges across the UK
The Duke of Edinburgh walked in unaided, after feeling unwell for a short period. The Queen remains at Windsor Castle in England, a royal source said.
“The Duke’s admission is a precautionary measure, on the advice of His Royal Highness’s Doctor, after feeling unwell,” a royal statement said. “The Duke is expected to remain in hospital for a few days of observation and rest.”
Queen Elizabeth, 94, and the prince have been staying at Windsor Castle, west of London, during Britain’s coronavirus pandemic.
The news of Prince Philip’s hospitalisation came as the queen’s son Prince Charles and his wife Camilla visited Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital to thank doctors, nurses and other health staff for their hard work in the coronavirus pandemic.
Charles, who had his first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine earlier this month, spoke of his “great joy” at meeting some of those who work behind the scenes in Britain’s National Health Service (NHS).
