1. New rules for China’s top military officers’ social lives in ‘unprecedented’ move
China’s top military body has issued a new set of rules controlling the social activities of serving and retired senior officers from the People’s Liberation Army. “This is an unprecedented move [for the PLA] to have a set of codes on social life for the senior cadres,” said Ni Lexiong, a professor of political science at Shanghai University of Political Science and Law. “This has not been done even in Mao Zedong’s times.”
2. Delivery man leaps off bridge to save drowning woman, then resumes work despite injuries
Peng Qinglin was in the midst of delivering food on his electric bicycle in Hangzhou, China, when he noticed a woman struggling in a river next to the road he was travelling on. Deciding to rescue her, Peng climbed over the railing of the 12-metre-high bridge and jumped into the water. Soon after his plunge, police and lifeboats arrived on the scene and completed the rescue. Despite Peng suffering compression fractures from the jump, he went on to finish his delivery.
