Brazil president Jair Bolsonaro in hospital with intestinal problem; may have surgery
- Brazil’s leader hospitalised early Monday; he expects more tests and possibly surgery
- He has been admitted to hospital many times since being stabbed during 2018 election campaign
Jair Bolsonaro was flown to a hospital in Sao Paulo in the early hours of Monday, cutting short his beach holiday after suffering from abdominal pain.
He said on Twitter that he started to feel sick after lunch on Sunday and was later admitted to the Vila Nova Star hospital.
He was put on a nasogastric tube, which carries food and medicine to the stomach via the nose, and is anticipating more tests ahead of possible surgery for internal obstruction in the abdominal region, he said on Twitter.
The hospital said he was admitted in the early hours of Monday morning due to intestinal obstruction.
“He is in stable condition, undergoing treatment, and will be re-evaluated this morning by Dr Antonio Luiz de Vasconcellos Macedo’s team. At the moment, there is no forecast for him being discharged,” the hospital said.
