Quit university to lose weight: Chinese woman who piled on weight hitting 90kg during study stint leaves graduate school to shape up
- Woman says laboratory work and hours of sedentary study saw her weight balloon by 10kg in 6 months
- After quitting school, she starts exercising and changes diet to shed unwanted pounds
The story of a woman in China who dropped out of postgraduate school to slim down after her weight soared to 90kg in just one semester has trended on mainland social media.
The woman, surnamed Shang, from Zhejiang province in eastern China, says she does not have any regrets about her decision because since stopping her studies nearly a year ago, she has shed 5kg, Shanhai Video reported.
Shang said that in the space of a semester her weight shot up by more than 10kg, largely due to long periods of physical inaction sitting in a laboratory.
In the video, she is seen sitting at a table in the laboratory burying herself in her studies while another photo in the clip shows her reflection in a mirror revealing her flabby belly.
“I am suffering from a bit of obesity from overwork. I don’t feel good,” Shang told Shanhai Video.
She said the weight gain had begun to affect her health and that is what made her first consider quitting her studies.
“It has only been half a year and I am already exhausted,” said Shang.
