Mainland social media has been left awestruck by a real-life “Spider-Girl” whose hobby is watching television while stuck to the ceiling.
The girl’s mother put living room surveillance video footage online which shows her eight-year-old daughter climbing up the corner of two walls from the sofa before chilling out on the ceiling.
The video, posted on July 9, shows the girl nonchalantly crossing her arms as she watches television from her gravity-defying perch.
As she does so, another member of her family calmly continues watching TV too, completely unfazed by her “special powers”.
The girl’s mother – who goes by the name @Ruxiangsuisu on Douyin, the mainland version of TikTok – later revealed that no-one knew about her daughter’s superhero alter ego until she checked the surveillance footage.
She added that the girl has always had a bit of the daredevil about her.

Online observers were amazed at China’s real-life comic-book hero, with some offering explanations of how she is able to do the stunt.
One person suggested it is because kids weigh less and tiled walls provide more grip.
The girl’s mother, from the Pingtan Island, off southeastern China’s Fujian province, added that the coastal city has a humid climate, which makes her girl more “sticky”.
The family opted for a tiled wall to protect it from mould.
One eagle-eyed online observer spotted the television remote control in spider-girl’s hand and jokingly said: “It is clear why she climbed up...to keep the TV channel under her control.”
Another told the mother: “Check if your girl has a spider bite on her. If so, you should get the outfit made.”
“You should take her to a sport climbing class. She will definitely do well,” suggested a third.

Another person poignantly dubbed the super power “a gift that humans have only when they are small”.
This is not the first time Chinese children have made headlines for their quirky talents.
In 2021, a seven-year-old girl from the central Chinese province of Shanxi won the Guinness World Record for doing 75 handsprings in a minute.
The girl’s father said she was obsessed with backflips and had been receiving training to do them since she was four.
