Educators and schools in China have explored teaching the case of Huawei Technologies Co. executive Meng Wanzhou to “inspire patriotic enthusiasm among the students”.
On Sunday morning, the day after Meng returned to China, Luye Elementary School in east China’s Shandong province had members of the Young Pioneers of China, a group for children run by the Communist Party, stand in front of the classroom and tell a version of Meng’s story to their peers.
The district education bureau documented the moment with photos of children standing in front of the classroom reading from their notes in front of various images from Meng’s return to China.

The bureau’s Weibo post quoted from Meng’s speech made at the airport on Saturday night with the sentence, “If faith has a colour, it must be China red.”
The adult leaders of the Young Pioneers group said they thought of the idea to teach the children that “being brave is not about having no fears, but rather maintaining belief in the heart”.
One verified education blogger on Weibo said explaining Meng’s return could be used as material for school essays and offered angles such as how “only technological innovation can revive a nation” and “a strong country means more dignity for the individuals”.
