‘Balenciaga of Belarus’ goes viral for festive bubble wrap quirky outfits costing US$90
Bizarre outfits promise to make wearer stand out in crowd, but followers of fashion on social media are divided on pricey items
A Belarusian designer brand has been dubbed “Balenciaga of Belarus” after its dress and jacket made completely out of bubble wrap went viral.
The brand ZNWR, which is based in the country’s capital Minsk, has been promoting the bizarre outfits ahead of the new year, advertising them as being perfect for those who want to “stand out among the multitude of velvet and satin on New Year’s night”.
They received many inquiries online among their 338,000 followers, but no customers had shared images of themselves wearing the products by the time of writing.
The brand’s name comes from the Japanese term Zen. Its design is said to be based on the principle of “Less is more”.
In a promotional video with two models floating in a swimming pool wearing the bubble wrap garments, the brand said the design philosophy behind them was “to be real, visible, transparent and sincere”.
The dress costs 280 Belarusian roubles (US$90) and the jacket 380 Belarusian roubles. There were only 20 items available.
