Cathay flights from Hong Kong to the US cancelled ahead of monster winter storm
Carrier has not revealed the exact number of flights affected, but will offer flexibility and fee waivers to customers who need to rebook flights

Hong Kong’s flag carrier, Cathay Pacific Airways, axed at least four US-bound flights on Sunday, joining a wave of global aviation shutdowns as a monster winter storm grounded about 10,000 flights across America, with around 1,800 pre-emptively cancelled for Monday.
Cathay on Sunday did not reveal the exact number of flights affected, saying only that it was “making a number of cancellations” to services between Hong Kong and the US from Saturday to Monday, including those to New York, Boston and Dallas.
“To assist affected customers, we are offering flexibility to customers to rebook their flights to alternative dates and waiving re-routing charges, allowing customers to adjust their travel plans easily,” a company spokesman said.
According to Hong Kong International Airport’s website, all three Cathay flights from Hong Kong to New York – CX844 departing at 3.25am, CX830 at 9.30am and CX840 at 4.30pm – were cancelled as of 10.30am on Sunday. These were the only direct flights on the route.
Another Cathay flight, CX812 bound for Boston and departing Hong Kong at 7.40pm on Sunday, was also listed as cancelled. Flight CX844 scheduled to depart for New York at 3.25am on Monday was also cancelled.
Two other outbound flights, CX830 and CX840 to New York, scheduled for 9.30am and 4.30pm on Monday, respectively, were unaffected as of 11am on Sunday.
