Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific, HK Express to boost flights to mainland in summer
Airlines will provide nearly 300 return flights weekly during the peak of the season to cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Zhengzhou
Hong Kong flag carrier Cathay Pacific Airways, along with its budget arm HK Express, will ramp up flights to mainland China this summer, increasing connectivity to major cities including Beijing and Shanghai.
The airlines said on Thursday that they would provide nearly 300 return flights weekly during the peak this summer, a 40 per cent increase compared with last year.
The International Air Transport Association, a trade group for airlines, defines the summer season for flight schedules as starting on the last Sunday of March.
For Beijing, Cathay will offer seven daily return flights to the Capital International Airport, while HK Express will operate one daily service to Daxing International Airport, resulting in 56 return trips per week to the capital.
Meanwhile, Shanghai will see eight daily return flights to Pudong International Airport and 11 weekly return services to Hongqiao International Airport, amounting to 67 return flights a week.
Additional destinations such as Zhengzhou, Ningbo, Haikou and Chongqing are also part of the expanded schedule.
