A driver has been arrested after his vehicle collided with a motorcycle in Hong Kong, killing the rider and injuring his female passenger.

The private car struck a 67-year-old man travelling southbound along Wang Chiu Road with a 61-year-old female passenger in Ngau Tau Kok at around 11.20am on Saturday.

The suspect, a 42-year-old man, was believed to have been travelling west on Kai Cheung Road, before colliding with the motorbike as he approached the junction of the two roads.

A pedestrian called police after spotting the motorcycle and the passenger lying on the ground.

The motorcyclist was sent to United Christian Hospital in Kwun Tong, but was pronounced dead at 11.55am.

The woman was transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital with injuries, while the driver of the car was taken to United Christian Hospital to treat one of his hands.
