Elderly mainland Chinese tourist hit by bus during Hong Kong sightseeing trip

An elderly tourist from mainland China was struck by a coach during a sightseeing trip in Hong Kong on Friday, leaving him in a semi-conscious state.

The accident happened as the 67-year-old man, a member of a tour group from Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang, was about to board a tourist bus in an outdoor car park on San Ma Tau Street near Kowloon City Ferry Pier in To Kwa Wan shortly after 12.15pm, according to police.

“He was hit by another bus that was originally parked beside it,” a force spokesman said.

The spokesman added that the man suffered scratches on his limbs and was in a semi-conscious state when he was carried into an ambulance.

He was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei for treatment and admitted to the intensive care unit, according to police.

The tourist holds a two-way permit, a mainland travel document used to enter Hong Kong.

Police arrested the 58-year-old driver of the tourist bus on suspicion of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm.
