Hong Kong businessman killed in Kwun Tong roundabout smash

A 61-year-old businessman died after his Mercedes-Benz slammed into railings at a roundabout in Hong Kong in the early hours of Wednesday.

The man, surnamed Li, was driving on Wai Yip Street in Kwun Tong towards Kowloon Bay when the accident happened soon after 12.30am. No one else was in the vehicle.

When his white sedan reached the roundabout near Kwun Tong Ferry Pier, it careered out of control, smashed through the side railings and hit an electricity substation.

“The driver was trapped inside the compartment and rescued by firefighters,” police said in a statement.

“Sustaining no superficial injury, he was rushed to United Christian Hospital in an unconscious state.”
