Spectators started filing in at around 6pm on Saturday before the 8pm kick-off, with fans keen to see their heroes, including the likes of Rivaldo, Ryan Giggs and Kaka, in the legends exhibition match.

Football enthusiast Eric Ho, 40, who was with his 12-year-old son, said he was very excited to see another edition of the event, especially as former players from his favourite club were taking part.

“We want to see stars from Manchester United the most. I’m a big supporter,” said Ho, who was wearing the club’s shirt.

“I used to come here for the matches held on the first and fourth days of Lunar New Year, but I’m looking forward to watching them in the newer and bigger stadium next year,” he said.

This year’s event again sees a World Legends team take on a Hong Kong Legends side, with international stars such as Eden Hazard, Paul Scholes, Cafu and David Silva dusting off their boots for the friendly match.
