Hong Kong worker dies after falling from ladder in Jardine’s Lookout

Police and Labour Department investigating industrial accident that saw man fall from about 1.5 metres while repairing air conditioner

A worker fell from a ladder in Hong Kong’s Happy Valley on Monday morning and later died in hospital, triggering an investigation by police and the Labour Department.

Police said the 58-year-old worker was using a wooden ladder to repair an air conditioner on the rooftop of a flat on Wilson Road in Jardine’s Lookout at 10.30am.

But he accidentally fell from about 1.5 metres (4.9 feet), injuring his head and passing out.

He was taken to Ruttonjee Hospital in Wan Chai for treatment, but was confirmed dead soon after.

Police are investigating the cause of the fall.

The Labour Department said it had immediately deployed staff to the scene upon receiving a report of the accident and it was also investigating.

The Association for the Rights of Industrial Accident Victims contacted the family to offer help.
