Some members of the Physical Fitness Centre chain that closed in Hong Kong have expressed disappointment after finding a gym which promised to provide free services had not yet opened.

The customers went to the Wan Chai branch of Healthy – a brand operated by a new company to provide complimentary services for those with Physical contracts – after hearing rumours it would open on Thursday. But staff members said no opening date had been confirmed yet.

The lift to one of the two floors where the gym was located was briefly operational during a Post reporter’s visit to the facility, whose interior remained largely unchanged, in the Capital Building on Lockhart Road.

At least seven staff members were at the gym, with one saying they would clean the fitness equipment that had been unused for almost a week and prepare for the reopening.

“There is no official reopening date yet but we will make an announcement soon … We’ll register the former members,” the employee said, shortly before access to the lift was shut off.

Retiree Chui Kee-lap, 73, said he tried to go to the gym because he had heard Healthy would open on Thursday.
