New lead helps Hong Kong police narrow search for missing schoolboy, 17, to country park

  • Matthew Tsang, who studies at Diocesan Boys’ School in Mong Kok, has been missing since Wednesday
  • He was last spotted walking towards Ma On Shan Country Park along Hang Shin Link, close to entrance of Tate’s Cairn Tunnel

Hong Kong police have narrowed their search for a missing 17-year-old boy to Ma On Shan Country Park following a new lead.

Form Six pupil Matthew Tsang Hin-chit has been missing since he left the Diocesan Boys’ School in Mong Kok on Wednesday.

The force on Saturday said that according to their latest information Mathew was last spotted walking towards the country park along Hang Shin Link, which lies close to the entrance of Tate’s Cairn Tunnel, at around 2.30pm on Wednesday.

Police said in a social media post their tactical unit and marine officers, as well as members of the Fire Services Department, were now focusing their search to the country park.

Matthew, who is preparing for university entrance exams next year, was also spotted at Shek Mun MTR station.

His mother Amy Chan told the Post on Saturday that the area is where the former captain of the school’s dragon boat team had trained and he found pride in himself.

The worried mother on Friday asked the public to mobilise to help trace the boy, who she said had been suffering from mental stress.
