Hong Kong newspaper Sky Post to cease print edition next month after 12-year run, amid dwindling market
- Chinese-language newspaper will wrap up print operations on September 15, but continue online coverage
- Move leaves Headline Daily, AM730 and Lion Rock Daily among the handful of remaining free Chinese-language printed newspapers in the city

Hong Kong newspaper Sky Post will cease its print edition next month after 12 years of operation, as the market for complimentary publications continues to shrink amid increasing digital transformation.
The Chinese-language newspaper, published by the Hong Kong Economic Times Holdings, announced on Wednesday that it would print its final edition on September 15.
“We would like to thank our readers for supporting Sky Post and witnessing its full transformation from a free newspaper to an online electronic medium,” it wrote in a Facebook post.
Sky Post, which has been available in print every Monday to Friday, said that it would enhance its coverage of health, entertainment and lifestyle in its online edition to offer professional and reliable content and videos.
The move leaves Headline Daily, AM730 and Lion Rock Daily among the handful of remaining free, printed Chinese-language newspapers in Hong Kong. The Standard remains the city’s only free English-language newspaper.
Established in 2011, Sky Post caters to middle-class working professionals and covers topics such as local news, international and mainland Chinese affairs, finance, entertainment, parenting, health and travel.
Sky Post’s decision came after some of the city’s publications had ceased printing as part of their digital transformation amid financial struggles.
