Three diners were rushed to hospital after a tabletop gas stove at a Hong Kong hotpot restaurant exploded on Friday.

The incident took place at a ground-floor restaurant in Times Tower on Jaffe Road in Wan Chai shortly before 1pm.

According to the force, a 21-year-old woman and her 23-year-old boyfriend were injured by flying fragments.

A spokesman said the woman had cut wounds on her chest and left arm, while her boyfriend suffered neck injuries.

“Another diner, a 40-year-old woman, complained of ringing in her ears due to the loud sound of the explosion,” he said.
