Hong Kong will consider honouring late singer Coco Lee on the Avenue of Stars, authorities have said, after her family suggested giving her recognition on the city’s version of Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.
But a lawmaker on Friday said the government might need to change its policy as the promenade was reserved for artists who had made significant contributions to the city’s film and TV industries.
A spokesman for the Leisure and Cultural Services Department told the Post on Friday that the plaques on the Avenue of Stars recognised the contributions of film industry professionals. But it said it would still convey Lee’s family’s suggestion to the Avenue of Stars Management Committee to discuss the idea.
“Any suggestion of an additional plaque will be conveyed to the management committee for consideration,” the department said, adding the meetings were held usually on a half-yearly basis.
The committee consists of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Tourism Board, Tourism Commission, Architectural Services Department, Home Affairs Department, New World Development and Hong Kong Film Awards Association.
