Operation Santa Claus: charity for disabled Hongkongers shows Christmas spirit all year round
- Volunteers and staff at Home of Loving Faithfulness provide care for those with moderate to severe intellectual and physical disabilities
- Charity says it hopes to use money raised by donors, including Operation Santa Claus, to hire more staff and care for even more people
As Christmas draws near, several residents at the Home of Loving Faithfulness (Holf), a centre in Hong Kong that cares for people with disabilities, are indulging in a spot of arts and crafts by building and painting festive trees.
The room at the centre in Sheung Shui is dotted with other pieces made by the group under the tutelage of volunteer artist Winnie Yu Wai-lin, including colourful flowers made using the bottoms of plastic bottles.
Outside, a pair of volunteers, a father and son, tend to a garden created with the help of donors.
Holf is a charity that provides care for 17 residents with moderate to severe intellectual and physical disabilities in a Christian home setting. Since its founding in 1965, the organisation has cared for more than 80 people.
Supervising and managing its day-to-day operations are Gretchen Ryan and Wenda Wong Pui-ying, both of whom started out as volunteers.
