Forever Sze, former RTHK senior executive and ex-producer of Headliner, dies aged 66
- Veteran broadcaster, who worked with the radio station for 35 years, was suffering from esophageal cancer
- He was one of the first producers of the now-scrapped, parody TV show Headliner
Former RTHK senior executive Forever Sze Wing-yuen, who was among the first producers behind a now-suspended satirical television show, has died at the age of 66.
Sze’s family members said they were notified by a hospital that the veteran broadcaster’s blood pressure was dropping at around 9pm on Sunday. Sze, who was an assistant director of broadcasting at the radio station, had been suffering from esophageal cancer. He died by the time the family reached the hospital.
Sze remained with RTHK for 35 years after joining the public broadcaster in 1981, eventually becoming its No 3 executive before retiring in 2015. He was also one of the first producers of the now-scrapped, TV parody show Headliner.
Sze made headlines in 2013 after saying he “had a feeling” he was being assigned political missions, and that he was facing “the biggest pressure ever” under former broadcasting director Roy Tang Yun-kwong.
“My colleagues are telling me they are feeling the pressure, the political pressure … and diversity [in production] is weakening,” he said at the time. “This is a very serious matter for a public broadcaster.”
But Sze would not reveal details when asked about the political missions he had claimed were assigned to him by Tang, who was parachuted in to head the broadcaster as an administrative officer in 2011.
