Chinese gold medallists showcasing gymnastics, weightlifting skills send Hong Kong pupils into Olympics frenzy

Four Chinese Olympic gold medallists wowed hundreds of Hong Kong primary school pupils on Sunday with their world-beating gymnastics and weightlifting skills, inspiring the next generation to try and emulate their levels of dedication.
Gymnasts Liu Yang and Zou Jingyuan – who triumphed in the rings and parallel bar events respectively at Tokyo 2020 – along with weightlifting champions Wang Zhouyu and Chen Lijun, were greeted with cheers and applause at the Yuen Long District Sports Association Jockey Club complex.
Youngsters waved national and Hong Kong flags during the rapturous welcome for the sporting stars, part of a Chinese delegation of Olympians who were on their final day of a 72-hour goodwill tour to mark their success at this summer’s Games.
Also on Sunday, Asia’s fastest 100m sprinter Su Bingtian and Ma Long, who has won five Olympic golds in table tennis, were among the six stars of the Games sharing their stories with 800 residents at Polytechnic University.
A day earlier, the elite delegation showcased their sporting prowess alongside local and aspiring athletes in a range of variety show-style demonstrations for Hong Kong crowds.
