Beijing’s Xia Baolong to hold closed-door meeting to hear views from Hong Kong businesses
Post learns Beijing’s point man on Hong Kong affairs to hold closed-door meeting in Shenzhen to boost confidence in business environment
Beijing’s point man on Hong Kong affairs will meet dozens of the city’s political and company leaders in Shenzhen on Friday to boost business confidence and discuss strategies for strengthening local economic growth, the Post has learned.
A source said on Tuesday that the guest list for the meeting with Xia Baolong, director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, included property tycoons, business leaders and trade group representatives.
Hong Kong’s top officials and lawmakers were also expected to attend, they added.
“The central government is keen to push Hong Kong’s development and prosperity. It wants to hear the concerns from the Hong Kong business community and share Beijing’s latest directions with them,” the insider said.
“I think a key message will be that Beijing hopes to see Hong Kong’s business community invest more and contribute more to Hong Kong and mainland China’s development.
“The business community should not be bystanders. They need to be participants, contributors and, hence, beneficiaries of Hong Kong’s overall development.”
