BEA chief David Li washes his hands of Hong Kong politics
Bank’s chairman and chief executive gave Henry Tang a big boost in 2012 by backing him
Banker and former lawmaker David Li Kwok-po, campaign manager for failed chief executive candidate Henry Tang Ying-yen in 2012, does not want his son to go into politics.
“Politics is a luxury. I doubt whether my son will go into it. I don’t encourage him at all,” the Bank of East Asia chairman and chief executive said in an exclusive interview with the Post.
He was talking about his elder son Adrian, a member of Guangdong’s top political advisory body and several other political and business groups.
Li himself represented the finance functional constituency in the legislature from its creation in 1985 until he stepped down in 2012.
When Tang officially declared himself a candidate in 2011, Li backed him as his campaign manager, just as he had with former chief executive Donald Tsang yam-kuen in 2005 and 2007.
