Three Hong Kong policemen arrested after predawn brawl with women
Officers face criminal investigation and disciplinary hearing over fight in Mong Kok
Three off-duty policemen were arrested after a predawn brawl with three young women in Mong Kok on Wednesday.
Fighting broke out when the officers, attached to the narcotics bureau, began arguing with the women, all aged 22, in Mong Kok Road shortly after 3.30am, according to police.
It is understood one of the women accused an officer of molesting her. During the scuffle, a folding chair was used to hit the officers.
“After initial investigation, the six were arrested on suspicion of fighting in a public place,” a police spokesman said.
The sergeant, two constables and the three women suffered minor injuries and were treated at Kwong Wah Hospital and later discharged.
They were still being questioning at Mong Kok police station on Wednesday night and none had been charged. A police source said the officers would face a criminal investigation as well as a disciplinary hearing.
Police stressed that the force paid great attention to the conduct of staff.
