Hong Kong taxi hold-up goes badly wrong, ending with alleged robber locked inside cab
On a bad day for thieves, another man was arrested when he returned to the scene of alleged crime in Sham Shui Po
A man was accused of bungling a taxi hold-up on Tuesday, and ending up locked alone inside the cab.
The 25-year-old was arrested after the quick-thinking victim jumped out of the vehicle and locked him inside the cab in the New Territories on Tuesday morning.
Police said the man flagged down the taxi outside Yan Chi House on Tin Yan Estate in Tin Shui Wai at about 10am, and got in.
They said as the car drove off, the passenger drew a fruit knife and said he was robbing the driver.
“The driver stopped, got out and then locked up the taxi, leaving the robber trapped in the rear passenger seat,” a police spokeswoman said. The 61-year-old driver then called police.
The man was arrested when officers arrived.
