Hong Kong police have arrested a man on suspicion of dangerous driving after his school bus crossed a double line while carrying primary school pupils, nearly colliding with an oncoming vehicle.

The 69-year-old man surnamed Tang was arrested on Friday, with police calling his actions “gravely dangerous to other road users”. The driver is currently out on bail.

The force acted in response to a video circulating online that showed the school bus crossing a double white line before overtaking a stopped bus and almost colliding head-on with another vehicle driving in the opposite direction.

Police said the bus was boarding and alighting passengers on Stanley Gap Road at about 3.36pm on Thursday, while the school bus was carrying 10 students aged between six and 11.

The arrested driver is required to report to police in early May.
