Government warns public not to be fooled by bogus video showing city leader urging public to take part in ‘investment plan with high returns’

A government spokesman on Wednesday warned the public about the bogus video circulating online that claimed the chief executive was urging residents “to participate in an investment plan with high returns”.
“The government solemnly clarified that the so-called remarks by the chief executive are fictitious,” he said, advising residents to stay vigilant against such scams.
The spokesman also condemned those attempting to distribute fake investment advice, noting that the incident had been referred to police for investigation.
It is not the first time a senior Hong Kong official has appeared in a bogus video created with AI-based software.
