3 arrested, HK$20 million of Ice seized in Hong Kong drug lab raid
Police say the 1,000 sq ft facility in Shek Wu Wai is believed to have been operational for about one to two months
Three Hongkongers have been arrested in a police crackdown on a drug manufacturing facility in a Lok Ma Chau village, seizing more than HK$20 million (US$2.6 million) of Ice and its raw material.
Senior Inspector Alan Ho Ho-ting of the narcotics bureau said on Thursday that officers had identified a tin hut in Shek Wu Wai that was used as a drug lab by a trafficking syndicate.
Police arrested three suspects on Tuesday – two men and one woman, aged 46 to 64 – during the raid on the facility.
Upon searching the premises, officers suspected the 1,000 sq ft drug lab had been operational for about one to two months.
The facility was filled with drugmaking equipment and chemicals, including pseudoephedrine, dichloromethane and ethyl ether believed to be used in the production of Ice, or methamphetamine.
