2 arrested amid HK$400,000 burglaries at homes of ex-Hong Kong police chief, neighbour

Police say officers are still investigating whether the suspects are linked to the burglaries that were discovered on Sunday and Monday

Hong Kong police have arrested two suspected burglars amid consecutive break-ins at the homes of former police chief Andy Tsang Wai-hung and his neighbour, with more than HK$400,000 (US$51,464) in cash and valuables stolen, the Post has learned.

A source said the arrests were made hours after Tsang discovered the burglary when he arrived at his Tai Po home with his family on Sunday night, adding officers were investigating whether the suspects were linked to the case.

Officers from the New Territories North regional crime unit were expected to provide later, the insider said on Tuesday.

The two burglaries at luxury residential estate Hong Lok Yuen were discovered on Sunday and Monday, prompting the force to enhance security in the district.

Officers were called to Tsang’s house at around 11.45pm on Sunday after he and his wife returned home and found the premises had been burgled.

The Post learned that more than HK$100,000 in cash, watches and jewellery were stolen from his house.
