Hong Kong dancer paralysed in Mirror concert sues employer, amount may exceed HK$3.5 million
Dancer Mo Li, 30, could be entitled to over HK$3.5 million in compensation if court finds his injury resulted in permanent total incapacity
A Hong Kong dancer has sued his employer for compensation after he was hit by a giant screen that collapsed during a concert by Cantopop boy band Mirror two years ago, with the sum payable potentially running up to more than HK$3.5 million (US$450,390).
Mo Li Kai-yin lodged the application in February this year under the Employees’ Compensation Ordinance, which provides a mechanism for workers to claim damages arising from accidental injuries during their employment.
The applicant, 30, who was paralysed from the neck down, would be entitled to more than HK$3.5 million in compensation if the court found his injury resulted in permanent total incapacity, according to the Post’s estimation under the law.
A lawyer for the applicant told a District Court hearing on Monday that Li was still considering a separate personal injury lawsuit against Studiodanz, which hired the dancers performing at the Mirror concert at Hong Kong Coliseum on July 28, 2022.
