Hong Kong authorities are investigating the death of a worker who fell from a scaffold in a work accident at Stamford American School on Sunday morning.
Police said the accident took place at 11.38am at No 25 Man Fuk Road in Ho Man Tin, but not did specify the name of the international school.
The institution is listed at the address given by authorities, with scaffolding observed around the lower floors where the building faces Princess Margaret Road.
The force said the 49-year-old worker was believed to have fallen four to five storeys before hitting the pavement.
Images shared online show a bloodstained helmet and one of the man’s shoes left at the scene.
“The man is a non-ethnic Chinese worker. He was rushed to Kwong Wah Hospital where he was certified dead,” a police spokesman said.
The spokesman declined to comment on whether any working conditions had led to the accident, stressing an investigation was still ongoing. No arrests has been made so far.
The Labour Department said it had immediately sent staff to the scene upon receiving an accident report and was investigating the cause of the incident.
The Association for the Rights of Industrial Accident Victims said the worker was a Nepali man who was dismantling the scaffolding when the incident took place.
“We were given to understand he had used a safety harness. As to why he fell down, it has to be further investigated by authorities,” spokesman Martin Lau said.
“We are still trying to contact his employer.”

The organisation said the worker had a wife and two young children.
Association chief executive Fay Siu Sin-man said the man’s friends had mentioned he had started work at around 10am.
“The work should have lasted no more than one day. He was there to dismantle the scaffolding. He was about to go to lunch around the time the accident took place,” Siu said.
The Post has contacted the school for comment.
In August, the Labour Department told lawmakers it attached great importance to “work-at-height safety”. The department said it would conduct surprise checks at sites with scaffolding and immediately seek prosecution for breaches of work safety.
It conducted 1,123 inspections targeting “unsafe above-ground activities” in the first six months of this year, with 193 work suspension or improvement notices issued and 92 cases planned for prosecution.
The department said there were 6,615 industrial accidents in the first quarter of 2024, with 61 related deaths.
A breakdown of the figures showed 667 of the incidents took place at construction sites, with three related deaths.
