Car catches fire as Hong Kong woman allegedly attempts suicide by burning charcoal
Emergency personnel dispatched to site in Sai Kung after man calls police reporting girlfriend’s bid to take her own life
A car burst into flames at an outdoor public car park in Hong Kong after a woman allegedly burned charcoal inside the vehicle as part of a suicide attempt.
Emergency personnel were dispatched to the Tai Mong Tsai Road site near the Wong Chuk Wan Tin Hau Temple in Sai Kung shortly before 9am on Tuesday after a man told police his girlfriend was trying to take her life in a car there.
The force said the woman, who is in her 30s, exited the vehicle before firefighters and police officers arrived.
A video clip of the incident shows the white car, with its left rear door wide open, bursting into flames and billowing dense smoke.
The Fire Services Department sent two fire engines and an ambulance to the scene.
A department spokeswoman said the fire was extinguished at around 9.11am.
