Missing Hong Kong hiker, 60, found alive after surviving on stream water

A 60-year-old thalassemia sufferer, who went missing while hiking in a Hong Kong country park, has been found on a secluded hillside in the New Territories after only drinking stream water for nearly two days.

Retiree Wong Ming-fong was discovered by a villager near Tai Mo Shan Country Park in the Cheung Uk Tei area of Tai Po at around 8am on Wednesday, police said.

A family member said Wong was completely exhausted when he was located at the remote site.

“He had no energy left. He was sitting on the ground and barely able to speak,” she said.

According to the force, Wong has been taken to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital in the same district for treatment.

The relative said the retiree was trapped in the woods, adding that he had fallen and slipped multiple times when he went missing.
