Hong Kong police launched a three-day air and land anti-burglary operation in upscale residential areas The Peak and the Mid-Levels as residents left for summer holidays.
A Government Flying Service helicopter and police drones were deployed to carry out aerial surveillance to assist officers and tracking dogs in patrolling hillsides and through undergrowth, according to the force.
“In addition to nighttime roadblocks set up on The Peak and the Mid-Levels to intercept suspicious vehicles, officers also scaled down hillsides with ropes to carry out searches,” it said.
A police spokeswoman said on Monday no arrests were made in the operation, code-named “Eaglerise”, which was conducted between Friday and Sunday.
Two days before the operation, officers were called to an upscale home on Mount Kellett Road on The Peak at around 10.50pm when a domestic helper, 55, found the premises had been burgled.

A window was broken and there were signs of ransacking in the house’s master bedroom, according to the force. It was not known what items were taken because the helper’s employer was out of town.
During the three-day operation, police also visited housing estates in the district and distributed fliers to raise awareness of crime prevention among residents and security personnel.
Police reminded residents to enhance security of their homes by keeping doors and windows locked, and avoid leaving large amounts of money and valuables at home.
“If residents notice suspicious individuals near their homes or in the vicinity of hillsides, they should immediately call 999 to report to the police,” the force said.
In the first five months of this year, police handled 604 reports of burglary across the city, a 37.3 per cent increase from 440 cases logged in the same period in 2023.
The city recorded 4,237 cases of violent crime between January and May in 2024, a 9.4 per cent rise compared with 3,872 reports in the same period last year.
In an effort to deter crime, authorities installed 15 sets of surveillance cameras in Mong Kok in March as part of a broader plan to have 2,000 installed by the end of 2024, with a focus on densely populated zones and high-crime areas.
