Hong Kong police launched a citywide manhunt for two men who rammed a car into a patrol vehicle and a parked Mercedes-Benz van on a dead-end street in Kowloon before fleeing in the early hours of Tuesday.
All six officers were left unscathed by the incident on Shek Ku Lung Road in Kowloon City, according to a source close to the case.
The insider said officers from the Kowloon City patrol unit followed a white Mazda that they identified as suspicious as it drove from Carpenter Road onto Shek Ku Lung Road shortly before 3am.
After the Mazda stopped in a parking space on the dead-end road, the police vehicle pulled over horizontally in front of the white car.
“Shortly after officers disembarked, preparing to approach and carry out a stop-and-search, the car suddenly accelerated and rammed into the police vehicle and a [black Mercedes-Benz delivery van] parked beside it before fleeing the scene,” the source said.
“Some of the officers involved had to dodge to avoid being hit by the car.”
