Hong Kong police have arrested a domestic helper after a video posted online showed a kindergarten pupil being grabbed by the neck and hauled off the ground across a busy road, the Post has learned.
The 14-second video of the incident showed the boy screaming and struggling just after the two got to the other side of the street. A passer-by is seen approaching the woman and complaining about her treatment of the child.
The woman in the video replied that “he [doesn’t] want to go to school”.
The incident took place outside Tin Hau MTR station on King’s Road just before 1pm on Tuesday, a source said.
A police spokesman said officers had arrested a 37-year-old domestic helper for suspected child abuse in North Point on Wednesday afternoon. He added the boy was four years old.
She was later granted bail pending further investigation and was ordered to report to the police in mid-October.
Police said the child appeared to be uninjured.
In a separate incident, police arrested a 66-year-old man on Tuesday on suspicion of ill-treatment of his six-year-old grandson at a house in Sai Kung.
