Chan Shu-yung, 66, appeared at Eastern Court charged in connection with the death of Law Shing-sau on Sunday.

According to court documents, Chan was charged with murdering Law at a concrete pier under the west bridge of North Point Ferry Pier on Sunday.

Chan, dressed in a black polo shirt and wearing a surgical mask, listened as the charge was read to him on Wednesday.

The prosecution asked for an adjournment to allow police to collect more evidence and to find witnesses, a murder weapon and CCTV footage. The defence did not object and no bail was applied for.

A murder suspect can only apply for temporary release before a High Court judge. The offence is punishable by life imprisonment.
