Hong Kong national security police have arrested another former member of disbanded opposition party Demosisto in connection with alleged fundraising activities in support of fugitive ex-legislator Nathan Law Kwun-chung, the Post has learned.

The latest arrest on Thursday morning of former party member Calvin Chu Yan-ho brought the total number of people detained in connection with the investigation to five.

A source familiar with the case said Chu was arrested at the airport as he was about to leave the city on a plane bound for Taiwan. The source added the investigation continued and more arrests were possible.

Officers from the force’s National Security Department on Wednesday arrested ex-Demosisto leader Ivan Lam Long-yin and three former members, William Liu Wai-lim, Li Kai-ching and Arnold Chung Chin-ku, in a raid on an industrial unit in Kwai Chung.

Sources earlier said the arrests of the four were linked to their involvement in the collection of funds on behalf of former party chairman Law, now living in self-imposed exile in Britain.

Law is among eight people with HK$1 million (US$127,700) bounties on their heads in connection with alleged national security offences. He is accused of engaging in anti-China activities.

Police, who did not identify the individuals, said they had arrested four people, aged 26 to 28, on allegations they conspired to collude with a foreign country or external forces and to commit acts with seditious intent.

A source on Thursday said all five remained in custody for questioning.
