Hong Kong police arrested three men on Thursday in connection with the discovery of about 100 bullets and 13 imitation guns beside a rubbish bin at a factory building in Kowloon.
Officers received a call at about 7.15pm on Wednesday after a security guard found the haul on the ground floor of the factory building, located on Ivy Street in Tai Kok Tsui.
A source familiar with the case said the seized ammunition consisted of 22 calibre bullets, while the imitation firearms included air rifles and model guns.
A preliminary investigation indicated that renovators had been instructed to dispose of the items after working at a house in Sai Kung, but had dumped them at the factory building, the source said.

The workers’ office was located in the same building.
Early on Thursday morning, officers from the force’s Kowloon West regional crime unit arrested the house’s tenant, as well as two workers in Hung Hom and Tai Po.
The trio were detained on suspicion of possessing ammunition without a licence and possessing imitation firearms, as well as offensive weapons.
In Hong Kong, imitation firearms can refer to model and toy guns, as well as airguns or those used in war games. Possession of such items is punishable by up to two years in jail.

Police said the imitation weapons were being tested to determine if they produced more than two joules in kinetic energy upon being fired, a level that meets Hong Kong’s definition of a firearm.
The source said the seized bullets and imitation guns could have belonged to the tenant’s father, who died around 20 years ago and was a licensed gun holder.
The three suspects, aged 22 to 37, were still in police custody as of 1pm on Thursday.
The source said the trio would likely be released on bail, pending further investigation.
Airgun attack on subversion trial court triggers huge Hong Kong police response
Earlier this month, police arrested a 39-year-old man and seized 45 airguns from a flat in Yuen Long while investigating a case of “wasteful employment of people” linked to a hoax call.
On February 8, police vehicles were deployed to guard a flyover near the West Kowloon Court in Sham Shui Po after an airgun pellet was fired from a moving vehicle there and grazed a glass panel.
The incident at the West Kowloon Corridor had occurred as the court oversaw the trial of 47 opposition politicians and activists charged with subversion of state power.
Police have offered a HK$150,000 (US$19,150) reward for information leading to the arrest of anyone involved in the attack.
