A Hong Kong taxi driver has been charged with false imprisonment for allegedly driving a drunk Malaysian tourist to a construction site and keeping her there for 30 minutes after her husband got out of the cab at a Tsim Sha Tsui hotel.

The woman, 25, and her husband, 26, had been drinking at a bar in Central on Saturday night before hailing a cab to take them back to their hotel on Peking Road in the early hours of Sunday, according to police.

When they got to their hotel, the husband asked staff for help in bringing his intoxicated wife to their room, but the taxi driver suddenly drove off with the woman on board.

The husband immediately called police.

The driver brought the woman back to the hotel 75 minutes later. Police officers at the scene arrested the cabby, 51.
