Hong Kong police find HK$3 million worth of meth concealed in industrial equipment in Yuen Long
- Police have also arrested a 65-year-old man in connection with the find
- Authorities believe a syndicate was using the heavy machinery as a cover and placing it in a remote area in an attempt to evade detection
Police have seized about HK$3 million (US$385,000) worth of suspected methamphetamine hidden inside a piece of industrial machinery, arresting a 65-year-old man in connection with the discovery.
In the course of an investigation, officers from the narcotics bureau found a suspicious wooden crate on the side of Yuen Long’s Tam Kon Chau Road containing a drum separator in which five packets of methamphetamine weighing a total of 4.5kg were concealed.
Police believe a drug syndicate had used the heavy machinery as a cover and placed it in a remote area in an attempt to evade detection by law enforcement officers.
The 65-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking.
He was released on bail pending further investigation and must report back to police in mid-October.
