The vice-chairwoman of the organiser of Hong Kong’s annual June 4 Tiananmen Square vigil has been denied bail for a second time over allegations that she incited others to take part in the banned event this year.

Magistrate Amy Chan Wai-mun of West Kowloon Court on Friday turned down a renewed bail application from barrister Chow Hang-tung, 36, who represented herself in the dock.

Even after the rejection, however, Chow remained defiant and is expected to renew her bid on July 16, before her case is heard again on July 30.

“Thank you all for coming,” Chow said as her supporters in the public gallery waved at her.

Some also shouted: “Hang in there.”
