More than 430,000 residents return to Hong Kong as Ching Ming holiday ends

More than 430,000 Hongkongers streamed through border checkpoints on Sunday as they returned home on the final day of the Ching Ming Festival long weekend.
According to the Immigration Department, over 550,000 people had entered Hong Kong through various crossings as of 9pm, with more than 430,000 being residents. Outbound travellers totalled over 370,000.
As usual, the Lo Wu control point recorded the highest number of entries, with over 100,000 individuals, followed by the Lok Ma Chau and Shenzhen Bay crossings. Lo Wu also saw the highest volume of outbound travellers, with more than 67,000 departures.
More than 35,000 Hongkongers had returned by air as of 9pm.
Drivers returning through the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge reported heavy traffic in Zhuhai, particularly at the Gongbei Tunnel, where long queues formed. The queues leading to the bridge remained as of 11pm.
Some travellers said earlier on social media that about 40 minutes were needed before reaching customs clearance.
